Dua Lipa Sued for Allegedly Ripping Off ‘Levitating’ from FL Reggae Band
Billboard says Artikal Sounds System is a south Florida Reggae group that has filed a lawsuit against Dua Lipa over the song “Levitating”.
The group claims she ripped off their song “Live Your Life”. It was released on their 2017 EP Smoke and Mirrors. The lawsuit states the group believes it is “highly unlikely that ‘Levitating’ was created independently” since the songs are so similar (Billboard). It also states that Lipa had “access” to the song prior to the release of Levitating, implying that she had heard it. But, the band did not include exactly why or how they thought she had listened to it other than the similarities between the songs.
Artikal Sounds System is seeking any profits made by the song plus damages. No comment from Dua or her label as of yet.
Listen for yourself and see how similar the songs are:
What other songs do you think sound similar? Do you think Dua Lipa will lose the lawsuit?
