“The Batman” Star Zoë Kravitz Confirms Catwoman Is Bisexual In New Film
Zoë Kravitz shared her interpretation of the Catwoman/Selina Kyle character in the new Batman movie premiering this Friday. Just as Catwoman is depicted in the DC Comics as being bisexual, Kravitz confirms that her portrayal of the character for the film is also bisexual.
Kravitz commented on the relationship shown between the cat burglar and her friend Anika in the new film. Kravtiz told Pedestrian.tv: “That’s definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship…”
The Batman’s director Matt Reeves also spoke on the character, saying this film will be the very beginning on Catwoman’s villain career. He told Pedestrian.tv, “[The film is] very true to the character of Selina Kyle. She’s not yet Catwoman, but all the elements of how she’s going to become Catwoman are there…”
He says between Selina Kyle and Anika, there exists an “intimate relationship” that is “more so than a sexual thing”. It’s more of a “tremendous and deep caring” for each other.
Kravitz and Reeves also spoke about how Catwoman has a soft spot for “strays”. Reeves told Pedestrian.tv, “In terms of her relationship with Anika, I spoke to Zoë very early on and one of the things she said which I loved was that: ‘She’s drawn to strays because she was a stray, and so she really wants to care for these strays because she doesn’t want to be that way anymore and Anika is like a stray and she loves her. She actually represents this connection that she has to her mother who she lost, who was a stray.'”
The Batman opens exclusively in theaters this Friday, March 4.
