Demi Lovato Talks About The Reality Of Coming Out As Non-Binary
Recently, Demi Lovato shared their reality of coming out as nonbinary and changing their pronouns.
Lovato says they came out last year to a few friends and family but just recently made it public in May. After doing some personal reflection over the last year, Lovato says, “I feel [being non-binary] best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and am still discovering.”
They went on saying, “I’ve been so open and honest with my truth to my fans. I felt holding it in any longer just didn’t feel right, and I wanted to share that – my truth – with the world.”
Initially, they said there has been some bigotry they faced but for the most part, “most people have been so wonderful, and that’s the reality of coming out.”
Demi also said changing their pronouns was a big step for them. “So I have officially changed my pronouns to they/them, and I feel better than ever,” they shared. They went on to say, “I am grateful for the progress that my family members have made in using my pronouns, team members, friends.”
