The decision to film both of the long-running game shows sans audience came down on March 9. TMZ first reported the news, and the three reasons for the decision include the following: Alex Trebek has a compromised immune system due to his stage 4 pancreatic cancer treatment; The average audience member for both of these shows is in their 60s, and that age group and older have been deemed vulnerable to the coronavirus; and many of the studio audience members are people from out of town and potentially from areas with widespread coronavirus outbreak.

This company called Coventry Direct wanted to know which game shows are the most popular of all time. Since there are quite a number of them, which ones have gathered the most success?

To start, the company looked at Google and its most popular searches by state. They looked at data from over the last 12 months, and from each state. The company was able to find the most popular game shows by state, and the most popular in general.

Most Popular Game Shows In General

9. The Newlywed Game

8. Match Game

7. Let’s Make A Deal

6. Jackpot

5. Jeopardy!

4. Wheel of Fortune

3. The Price is Right

2. Name That Tune

1. Family Feud

And surprisingly, in the case of NC, our #1 by state was the same as the #1 in the country, which was Family Feud. South Carolina’s #1 was also Family Feud, along with Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, Virginia, and Texas.

Personally, I was surprised that Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune weren’t higher on the list. Jeopardy! only listed as the top game show for 3 states, all in New England: Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Wheel of Fortune listed for 7, but still came in as #4 overall. Wheel of Fortune took Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.

What’s your favorite game show? Is it on this list? Which do you like more: Family Feud, Jeopardy, or Wheel of Fortune?
