Make It Easier To Fly By Getting The Real ID, Deadline Is May 2023
If you haven’t gotten your Real ID yet, you have a year left to make it happen, and if you don’t, get this: you can’t use your Driver’s License to fly domestically.
Afar says the original deadline was October 1, 2020 to have the ID if you were traveling, but because of COVID, the deadline date was pushed back several times.
Now, U.S. travelers 18 and older must have a Real ID-compliant license when checking in with TSA. The deadline to get this is May 3rd, 2023.
If you don’t have the Real ID by the 2023 deadline, you’ll need to show the TSA a valid passport, trusted traveler program card, or a permanent resident card. Kids traveling with an adult aren’t required to have an ID.
All 50 states, the District of Columbia, and four of five U.S. territories are issuing these. The only territory that isn’t is American Samoa.
