Heardle, the Wordle of Music, Has Users Rushing to Name That Tune
If you’re a Wordle user, you’ll be happy to know there is a music version called Heardle. According to Yahoo, the “daily musical intros game,” is barely a month old and already is getting a million users a day.
Similar to Wordle, the game gives you the very beginning intro to one song. Using only what is given, you have to guess the correct artist and song title in six tries or less. The website has an app domain and uses a Soundcloud integration.
It is free and features songs from all genres and eras. The creator, who wishes to remain anonymous, says there are two million active fans. One of those fans being Questlove from The Roots. “I’m a big fan of Questlove; his knowledge of music is extensive and having a self-titled ‘music geek’ onboard is exciting. That he’s doing this every day is a real highlight for me,” said the creator.
The Pressure Of Picking THE Song of the Day
The creator also spoke on how much pressure it is to pick a song everyday that most people will be able to enjoy recognizing and guessing. He said, “Imagine you were a DJ for millions of people every day, but you’re only allowed to play one song. There’s a lot of pressure around that one song choice. The feedback is usually generational, where the young people want more new songs, and the older people want songs from their generation. I’m hoping that both sides can be open to music of all ages…and that the music we use on Heardle of course conjures memories of a time you loved, but also opens you up to great artists you may not know. If I can do that, trigger a good memory or remind everyone how powerful music can be, every minute of Heardle will be worth it all.”
Have you tried playing Heardle yet?
