How To Keep Your White Sneakers Looking “Boxfresh”
Nothing says summertime like a pair of fresh white sneakers. There have been so many shoe trends over the past few years that involve white sneakers like Air Force 1’s. Companies like New Balance, Adidas, Nike, and even luxury shoe brands like APL have jumped on the trend. And I absolutely love the look of all white sneakers…but personally, I’m always scared that me being me, I’m going to get them dirty and gross the very first time I wear them outside the house. Anyone else??
Here are some tips from The Fashion Spot on how to keep your white sneakers clean and protected…at least for a little while.
1. As soon as you take them out of the box, pre-treat them with a stain and water repellent solution. Founder of The Wardrobe Refresh Robyn Wellikoff says Jason Markk Repel Spray is a good brand. Another brand you could use is HEX Performance Laundry Detergent mixed with a bit of cold water.
2. If you didn’t pre-treat them and you get a stain on them use an old toothbrush or cloth with a small amount of laundry detergent and water. Robyn Wellikoff says to try to remove stains as soon as you see them appear. The longer you wait, the harder it might be to remove them from the fabric.
3. If it’s an all-white cloth material like a running shoe you can put it in the washing machine but do NOT put them in the dryer. Instead, air dry them. Plus, for tougher stains, make sure to pre-treat them before throwing them in the wash. Also, don’t forget to remove the insoles before washing.
