New Contract Means Sony Movies Will Soon Stream Exclusively on Netflix
Netflix and Sony just signed a huge multi-year deal that changes the landscape of the streaming world.
Starting in 2022, Netflix will be the exclusive streaming home for all Sony Pictures movies. That includes future movies for big-name franchises like Spider-Man, Venom, Jumanji, and Bad Boys. Some of the movies Netflix will be offered at the beginning of 2022 will be Morbius, Uncharted, Where the Crawdads Sing, and Bullet Train.
This contract gives Netflix a major studio partner similar to the arrangement HBO Max shares with its parent company Warner Brothers. The goal seems to be to keep up with the competition of Disney and their streaming platform Disney+.
What kind of impact do you think this will have on the streaming landscape? Will big Hollywood movies go back to being theater-exclusive, or will we keep seeing big releases on streaming platforms?
