Memorial Day weekend is what many people consider to be the unofficial kick-off to Summer. With that, many people decide to travel for the long weekend. Being in Charlotte, we're lucky because we have the mountains, the lake, or the beach to choose from.

If you're planning to travel over Memorial Day weekend, you're not alone. The American Automobile Association(AAA) is predicting this holiday weekend coming up to be one of the busiest we've seen in awhile. AAA is expecting over 42 million people to be traveling for the long weekend, and the majority of those people will be on the road, driving.

While you can't always predict traffic, you can predict what times will likely be the most busy.

If you're wanting to avoid the busiest traffic times around Charlotte, here are the busiest traffic times to avoid per AAA.

The Busiest Travel Time for Memorial Day Weekend 

  • Thursday, May 25th between 3p.m. and 6p.m.

  • Friday, May 26th  between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m

  • Monday, May 29th between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Best Travel Times for Memorial Day Weekend

  • Thursday, May 25th, before 1 p.m.

  • Friday, May 26th, before noon

  • Saturday or Sunday

  • Monday, May 29th, before 10 a.m.
