Cargo Ship Full Of Luxury Cars Is On Fire In The Middle Of The Ocean
LONG BEACH, CA - OCTOBER 2: Container ships remain anchored outside of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach October 2, 2002 in Long Beach, California. The ships are among the 70 loaded vessels in Long Beach, seen on the horizon, that cannot bring goods through Los Angeles because of the West Coast lockout of dockworkers by shipping lines. Thirty-one more ships are scheduled to arrive in the coming days to this, the world's third-largest harbor complex. Hopes that federal mediation would resolve the impasse, which is costing an estimated $1 billion a day, were dashed October 1 after union representatives stormed out of a meeting after shippers showed up with armed security guards. Talk about a bad situation! A cargo ship that is full of luxury cars is currently on fire, and abandoned in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Luckily the crew has all escaped the fire, but the cars on board are not as lucky. According to CNN, “The 656 foot-long Felicity Ace roll-on/roll-off car-carrying ship caught fire in the North Atlantic on Wednesday as it carried cargo.” That, “cargo” happens to be a ton of luxury vehicles, including Porsches and Volkswagens.
A tow has been arranged for the ship as it continues to burn. Porsche told CNN that they have been contacting customers who have cars on board the burning ship. Imagine waiting for your brand new car, only to find out it might be on fire in the middle of the ocean… WILD!
With all the product, supply, and shipping delays that we’ve already been dealing with in the pandemic, this is just an added setback for owners who were expecting to get their new vehicles soon.
