Catching Up With Cameron: Things To Do In Charlotte This Weekend (8.27-8.29)
Here we are; it’s another weekend in the Queen City, and this one it going to be a HOT ONE! There will football in town, a drag show, a 90’s pizza party, and lots of live music.
If you’re willing to get out and brave those 90 degree temperatures this weekend, here is a list of some fun events going on around town you can try to check out.
FRIDAY
Resident Culture Food Truck Friday
- 2101 Central Ave.
- Start your weekend at Resident Culture with a packed lineup of food trucks including What the Fries and K&N BBQ plus live music and shopping pop-ups.

Summer Grilling Sides with Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen
- 4001 Yancey Rd.
- Learn how to make a variety of grilled sides for the summertime including tomato and watermelon salad with sweet chili dressing, potatoes with charred baby onion and bacon aioli, southwestern grilled corn and zucchini and pickled onions plus a key lime panna cotta.

Out of Place Exhibition Opening Reception
- Goodyear Arts
- In this latest exhibition, Goodyear Arts’, Out of Place will feature ten artists who self-identify as outliers and highlight works not traditionally seen on gallery walls. Additional showing dates are September 3, 10 and 17.

Pet Pop Up
- Skiptown at 222 Rampart St.
- Pamper your pet with locally made goodies like dog treats, pet accessories, and pet grooming products. There will also be a pet photographer on-site to capture pictures of you and your pup.

Haute Asiko Fashion Show
- the Harvey B. Gantt Center at 551 South Tryon St.
- Curated by Davita Galloway, co-founder and owner of DUPP&SWAT, this fashion event will feature an array of local designers. Guests are encouraged to arrive in style and following the show, there will be an opportunity to shop directly from the artists.

Open Mic Night
- Blumenthal Performing Arts at 130 North Tryon St.
- Make your way to the McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square for an impressive lineup of local performers including instrumentalists, singers, dancers, storytellers, poets, jugglers and magicians. Audience seating is on a first-come-first-served basis.

- Bank of America Stadium
- Help cheer on the Panthers in their last pre-season game against the Pittsburg Steelers.

90s Pizza Party
- Hoppin’ at 1402 Winnifred St
- Head to Hoppin for a night of 90s TV shows, free pizza and Kool-Aid wine slushies, plus a 90s-themed costume contest. The first 100 guests will get a free slap bracelet.

“O.H. Well” Hilliard Studio Method
- Optimist Hall
- Join Rachel Ferrara of Hilliard Studio Method on the patio at Optimist Hall for a fast-paced, Sculpt Flow Method class that uses your own body weight for resistance. Bring a mat, towel and some water.

Pinhouse Outdoor Yoga

- Head to Pinhouse for an energizing practice with Dancing Lotus Yoga then, stick around after class for music, drinks, and all-around good vibes.

Visual Vanguard Opening Celebration
- 551 South Tryon St.
- This new exhibition from the Harvey B Gantt center highlights the struggles, strengths, and celebrations of Black creativity in the Carolinas through visual art, performance, video, and poetry. The all-day opening celebration will feature live music, hands-on art experiences, curator-led talks and an opportunity to have intimate conversations with the 25 artists in the exhibition.

Yoga & Mimosas

- Head to Ballantyne’s Backyard for a relaxing yoga flow followed by mimosas to jumpstart your weekend. Registration required.

QC Live Art Experience
- 229 South Brevard St.
- 15 local artists will be creating live works of art in under three hours. Once the clock stops, the completed works will be placed on display and auctioned to the highest bidders.

- Make your way to Lower South End for one big neighborhood block party complete with live music, food and drinks, plus shopping from local vendors.

Late Night Radio with Artifakts
- The Music Yard
- Denver-based musician, Alex Medellin (aka Late Night Radio) joins funk, EDM artist Artifakts to put on one heck of a show full of electronic grooves.

Moonlight Movies
- 1111 Metropolitan Ave.
- Bring a chair or a blanket out to the Metropolitan for a screening of The Parent Trap (1998). Tickets include a s’mores bar, popcorn, parent trap trivia, goodie bags, and face painting among other things. Beverages from Sycamore Brewing will be available for purchase.

Counterculture Club Outdoor Yoga Series

- Join Counterculture Club Yoga in the Boileryard at Camp North End for a rejuvenating yoga flow, fit for all levels.

- House DJ LP Giobbi is bringing the beats to The Music Yard stage along with DJs DOMii and Seebirdgo.

rEvolution – Sound Worlds for String Quartet & Electronics

- This all-female group of composers creates a “traditional” string quartet experience, with a modern twist using percussive elements, improvisation, electronic soundscapes, and even children’s toys.
