Friday morning, ABC announced they had a new Bachelor; Matt James. James is the first black male lead in the shows history, which is already huge, but that's not the only reason we're excited to watch his season; he also has ties to NC!
Matt James was born and raised in Raleigh, NC! Not only that but he also played football while he attended school at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.
During his final season with the Demon Deacons, Matt caught 40 passes for 401 yards in 2014.
Producers had this to say about James,
"Matt has been on our radar since February, when producers first approached him to join Bachelor Nation. When filming couldn't move forward as planned, we were given the benefit of time to get to know Matt and all agreed he would make a perfect Bachelor. We feel so privileged to have Matt as our first black Bachelor, and we cannot wait to embark on this journey with him."
No date has been set for filming yet, and they still need to film The Bachelorette beforehand too, but still... maybe cameras will come to NC, at least for hometowns.
