Charlotte Skaters Working To Relocate Eastland Mall Skatepark To Light Rail Station
Skaters in the Charlotte community are working together to try and relocate one of the cities most popular skate parks.
The old Eastland Mall site was home to a popular skatepark. Earlier this year, that site was bought up by a new developer. That meant that the skatepark would have to move or be demolished. A plan is currently in the works to relocate the skatepark to a new location.
According to WCCB, Skaters in the community are working to form a nonprofit. Once the nonprofit is formed, they would try to lease the new location. The new location they are eyeing is at the Tyvola Road light rail station, right under the bridge where the train runs.
The city itself is working to relocate the open-air market that also previously took place in that empty lot.
There is a lot of development happening in Charlotte, and that’s a good thing, but it’s also important to try to retain the things that brought the city culture. Good luck to the skaters out there! I hope you can get the new lease and have a new place to skate before the Summer is up!
