Barry Manilow Gifts Charlotte Music Teacher With A Huge Donation
By now, you probably saw that Barry Manilow was in Charlotte Saturday night, at the Spectrum center. Before his big show however, he stopped by and met with a local school band-director.
Walter Suggs is a high school band director at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology. He and his family went backstage at Spectrum Center to meet Barry Manilow before the show, and he was awarded $10,000.
Manilow has been recognizing music teachers at every city his tour stops in, and Suggs was the recognized teacher for Charlotte.
He was awarded $5,000, and then an additional $5,000 of “Manilow Bucks.” According to WSOCTV, the money can be used to purchase musical equipment, and instruments for the school.
What a wonderful idea! I wasn’t aware that Barry Manilow has done this on his tour, but I think it’s an amazing idea. Music was always my favorite part about high school. I would spend hours just hanging out in the chorus room, so I love that this school will now have more equipment and funds to use for the kids.
