Charlotte News Station Gets Called Out On “Last Week Tonight”
We love a shout out, but sometimes they’re not always for the best reasons.
One of the biggest news stations in the Queen City just got called out on HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.” The episode deals with questionable sponsored content practices on local news channels.
Being more specific, when companies or people will pay to promote products through interviews, that to the viewer come off more as health information.
Charlotte wasn’t alone in being called out though; a lot of states and stations were called out in the 21 minute clip, and some stations even fell for a prank done by Oliver’s team to prove a point.

Hi, I'm Cameron! I was born and raised in North Carolina. I'm a super tall redhead who is always down for tacos, enchiladas, and margaritas. Okay, so Mexican food is my personal favorite, but I’m not saying no if you’re trying to eat out on the town anywhere. I I am on air for middays but also the Program Director for Kiss 95.1. I enjoy connecting with Kiss 95.1’s amazing listeners and being able to bring all of my favorite things like food, wine, and life online into digital content.
