Chris Evans is one of my favorite actors and celebrities in general. I know everyone knows him mostly from his work as Captain America in the Avengers movies. However, I think he is incredibly talented and has more range than I think many people know about. So, I’ve put together a list of his movies where I think he shows off his range as an actor the most.

1. Knives Out (2019)

Genre: Murder-mystery

Director: Rian Johnson

Where to Watch: Included with Amazon Prime

If you haven’t seen Knives Out yet, please sit down for a night and watch this with your friends or family. This film is one of the best murder mysteries I’ve ever seen. I consider myself to be pretty great at predicting movie endings, but this one came out of left FIELD! Chris Evans plays an AMAZING role in this movie. He is a rich, spoiled playboy, which deviates from his usual hero role. It’s amazing.

2. What’s Your Number? (2011)

Genre: Rom-Com

Director: Mark Mylod

Where to Watch: For Rent or Purchase on Amazon

This is a funny one that Chris Evans has done. He plays a musician who is the next-door neighbor to the main character played by Anna Faris. His character essentially helps Anna Faris’s character track down all her ex-boyfriends. It’s a lovely rom-com that has a lot of scenes with Chris Evans being cute and fun and adventurous. So total heart eyes. Highly recommend.

3. Gifted (2017)

Genre: Comedic Drama

Director: Marc Webb

Where to Watch: For Rent or Purchase on Amazon

Big heart eyes for this one too!! In Gifted, Chris Evans plays the uncle of a young math prodigy played by Mckenna Grace. As his niece becomes more and more recognized for her talents, a custody battle ensues between Chris Evans’s character and the young girl’s grandmother. This one will make you cry. I think it really does a good job of showing a new type of character for Evans: a caring father figure. 10/10!

4. Snowpiercer (2013)

Genre: Action/Thriller

Director: Bong Joon-ho

Where to Watch: Netflix

This is one of my favorite movies of all time probably. The concept and direction are so intriguing because it’s a movie that you don’t know exactly what is going on until the very end. When the world becomes uninhabitable, all the remaining survivors live on a train divided by class that constantly circles the world. Chris Evans is a man living in the poor conditions of the very end of the train. His goal, along with other survivors, is to make it to the front. His role in this is similar to his Captain America hero/leader role. Snowpiercer takes you for a ride so buckle up.

5. Before We Go (2014)

Genre: Rom-Com

Director: Chris Evans

Where to Watch: Free with Ads on IMDbTV

Not only does Chris Evans star in this rom-com drama, but it is his first and only movie that he’s directed so far! It’s interesting to watch because this movie will reveal Chris Evans’s artistic vision for a rom-com. I think it’s honestly kind of full circle because he had been in so many romantic movies before this and I truly think this one stands out as being different than all the others. In Before We Go, Evans plays a musician who sparks a quick connection with a stranger one night in NYC and it follows their adventures. It doesn’t have the ending you might expect, but it does leave you feeling good. 🙂
