Reviews Are In, Barbie Movie Is Oscar Worthy According To Reports
Can this be real life? Early reviews from the LA screening of “Barbie” are buzzing! One reviewer called Ryan Gosling’s performance “Oscar worthy!” How is that possible hahaha. LauRen and I have been keeping an eye on this summer flick for some time. Obviously, we both find Margot Robbie and Gosling easy on the eyes ha. But this movie has been in the works for months. It was this past winter when we saw our glimpse of Robbie as “Barbie.” I thought for sure this movie would bomb. The idea of a live-action movie about dolls was bad, so I thought. Now I have to rethink my summer movie plans and add this one…maybe!
Before we get into all the recent buzz about “Barbie” let’s talk about the plot first. The website Film Synopsis says this: “Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.” Great, so life is better in the doll world haha.
The buzz coming with “Barbie” reminds me of the early reviews of “Top Gun 2.”
I was excited to see that movie regardless of what the critics said. But I remember talking on the air about the reviews of Tom Cruise’s performance after a viewing at the Cannes Film Festival. Critics raved about TG2. Viewers gave Cruise a standing ovation at the popular fest after the screening.
My point is you don’t know what a movie is, until you see it. Good or bad. How many movies had a ton of pre-release hype only to suck when it hit theaters?
Back to “Barbie.” The film premiered in LA this weekend and here’s what critics are saying.
Variety’s Katcy Stephan called the movie “perfection” saying “ The entire cast shines, especially Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in roles they were clearly born to play.”
Jamie Jirak of ComicBook.com said the film was her favorite of the year: “Greta Gerwig somehow exceeded my expectations … Give Ryan Gosling an Oscar nomination, I’m dead serious!”
ScreenRant writer Joseph Deckelmeier said the film was “funny, bombastic and very smart”.
