WHAT?! ‘The Office’ Almost Ended With Jim And Pam Divorced!!
This past week was the 15th anniversary of The Office, but let’s be honest, when are people NOT talking about the show? It’s undoubtedly one of the most popular shows of the last few decades, but it almost had a VERY different ending.
Andy Greene’s new book, The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s, show-runner Greg Daniels‘ original plan to end the series was to break up everyone’s favorite couple; Jim and Pam!
Apparently some of the biggest fans of the idea were John Krasinski and Mindy Kaling.
John Krasinski’s quote from the book reads,
“My whole pitch to Greg was that we’ve done so much with Jim and Pam, and now, after marriage and kids, there was a bit of a lull there, I think, for them about what they wanted to do… For me it was, ‘Can you have this perfect relationship go through a split and keep it the same?’ which of course you can’t. And I said to Greg, ‘It would be really interesting to see how that split will affect two people that you know so well”
As the show progressed and they got toward the final season however, they decided to pull the plug on the idea because they knew fans would basically hate it and they didn’t want to do that to the fans.
Well thank goodness!
Can you imagine the backlash if the show runners would have pulled that?
