I-277 Will Be Shut Down On Sunday Morning For A Massive Race
If part of your labor day weekend travels including using I-277 on Sunday this weekend, think again!
A massive race called Around the Crown 10K, slowing the speed limit on Charlotte’s major inner beltway to about 5 mph as runners replace cars on the interstate. The race already has over 4,000 participants signed up to run.
The race will begin at 7:04 am at Romare Bearden Park, runs through the streets of uptown for about 3 miles, and the other half is completed on I-277.
So needless to say, if you’re planning on getting out Sunday morning, there will be some MAJOR traffic detours.
I-277 inner will be closed from 2 a.m. to noon on Sunday with four major intersections rerouted from I-77 North, I-77 South, Brookshire Freeway and Independence Boulevard.
All runners be off the highway by 8 a.m.

Hi, I'm Cameron! I was born and raised in North Carolina. I'm a super tall redhead who is always down for tacos, enchiladas, and margaritas. Okay, so Mexican food is my personal favorite, but I’m not saying no if you’re trying to eat out on the town anywhere. I I am on air for middays but also the Program Director for Kiss 95.1. I enjoy connecting with Kiss 95.1’s amazing listeners and being able to bring all of my favorite things like food, wine, and life online into digital content.
