The Largest Grocery Chain In The U.S. Is Getting Rid Of Plastic Bags
They’re making a huge change.
Kroger, the nation’s largest grocery chain will be plastic-bag free at all of its nearly 2,800 stores by 2025.
Single-use plastic bags create a huge amount of waste. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, more than 380 billion plastic bags are used in the U.S. every year. That plastic can end up in waterways, harming marine life.
Kroger orders about 6 billion bags each year, and by 2025 is hoping to no long order any.
Pretty incredible!
Kroger is the latest company to make the shift to reduce waste. Disney, Starbucks, Marriott, and McDonald’s all have already announced their own plans to get rid of plastic straws in the future. Dunkin’ Donuts is phasing out polystyrene foam cups by 2020. Ikea plans to eliminate single-use plastic products from its shelves by 2020, including straws.
The company is encouraging people to switch to reusable options.
