Godiva To Close All Stores, Including One In Charlotte
Growing up, I remember walking through the local mall with my mom, and always having to stop in awe of the delicious chocolate-covered treats in the window display at Godiva Chocolate.
It is officially the end of an era because Godiva will be closing all of their brick and mortar locations this year. The luxury chocolatier is closing or selling all 128 of its stores in North America. Godiva will keep its stores open across Europe, the Middle East, and Greater China.
The company has not disclosed how many employees will be affected by these closures, but you can imagine with 162 stores, the number is pretty high. Godiva relied heavily on mall traffic, which was already plummeting even before the pandemic. But Covid was the final nail in the coffin for Godiva and many mall retailers.
Charlotte has one Godiva location in South Park Mall so if you’re wanting to say goodbye, this Valentine’s Day might be your last chance to see the store in person.
