4 Tips for Charlotte Airport Spring Break Crowds

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is expecting to experience a surge of travelers this Spring Break. Time to make sure you are prepared to enter in the Charlotte airport.

With spring break right around the corner and local schools breaking for an eight-day hiatus, traveling will no doubt be a major concern.  Whenever I travel I like to try and keep organized to avoid delays or missing my flight all together. Travel experts are expecting to see a 15% increase from last year and forecasting that the peak travel days will be Thursday March 28th- Monday April 1st.

How to Prepare:

In response to the projected travel surge, North Carolina Department of transportation and the Charlotte department of transportation recommends the following to prepare for heavy spring break traffic.

  • Reserve Parking in advance- via CLTairport.com
  • Allow extra time to get to the airport at least 2 hours for domestic and 3 hours for international.
  • Research shuttle bus and security check point information.

Tips for International Travel:

  1. Check your passport and visa requirements, make sure that your documents are up to date and you have obtained these items ahead of time.
  2. Research where you’re going, many countries outside of the United States have different laws, languages and customs that may impact your travel.
  3.  Notify your bank that you are traveling outside the country to avoid issues with purchases.
  4. Stay Safe, if possible, stay with your travel group or companion when going out.

Spring Break is just around the corner and you may be looking for something to do to keep the kids occupied. And what kid (and adult) doesn’t love a good theme park outing? And despite what you may think you don’t have to go all the way to Florida to have experience the fun. Instead, you should check out one of the 5 closest theme parks to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Listen if you have the time and money I will not talk you out of visiting the Florida parks. I spent New Year’s visiting several of the major ones and had a blast. But they are expensive and crowded, especially during times when kids are out of school. So instead, why not plan a visit that’s a little closer and perhaps not wall-to-wall crowded?

The 5 closest theme parks to Charlotte of course include one that’s local. But also theme parks in the neighboring states of Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia.  Some even have on-site hotels and all are in places that offer more fun than just the theme parks so they will make great destinations to spend a weekend or even the entirety of spring break.

Theme parks also have so much more to offer than just rides. Of course, there are always the roller coasters (and each of these parks has some world-renowned coasters) and kid’s rides. Many have waterparks as well. But the 5 closest theme parks to Charlotte also offer a wide array of entertainment, food, and even shopping.
