North Carolina Native Competes on Netflix Rap Compeition Show, Rhythm + Flow
Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow is back for its second season and is off to a great start. The rap competition show features artists throughout the country competing to be the next champion and winner of a cash prize of $250,000. This season, one North Carolina native is crushing the competition and slowly becoming a fan favorite.
Each week contestants on the show face a musical battle from battle rap, cyphers, collaborations, creating their own song, music video challenges, and more. This season celebrity judges include Latto, Ludacris, and DJ Khaled. “I’m looking for the full package,” Latto says during auditions. “I want somebody who can survive in this new generation.”
The show is filmed and hosted in Atlanta, except for when challenges call for them to be in another state for its purpose. “The South is known to be more vibey and slow, while the East Coast tends to be super lyrical, cerebral, and very no-nonsense,” executive producer Dionne Harmon tells Tudum. “The West Coast is generally laid back. It’s like sunshine, palm trees, play-it-in-your-convertible-driving-by-the-beach type of energy. And then there’s a real grit to the Midwest, Chicago, Detroit.”

This season, North Carolina’s own, Jaxs, is making an appearance as she competes to be the next champion. She is a 26-year-old female rapper from Currie, North Carolina. When asked who are some of her musical influences, she names Eminem, Lil Wayne, André 3000, Childish Gambino, and Joyner Lucas.
Currently, the show is on week 3 with multiple episodes available on Netflix. New episodes are released every Wednesday until the finale and a champion is crowned.
In the first season, we were introduced to Season 1 winner, D SMoke who is now a Grammy-nominated artist. Since we’re focused on the local love for North Carolina, we’re rooting for Jaxs as the season continues. Who has been your favorite this season so far?
