“Wednesday” Brings Lady Gaga’s 2011 Hit “Bloody Mary” Back Into Top 40 Billboard Global Chart
Lady Gaga is finishing out the year with a bump for a 2011 deep cut. “Bloody Mary” has leapt up the charts, breaking into the top 40 for Billboard’s Global (excluding the US) Chart in particular this week, on the heels of a swirl of TikTok activity surrounding the popularity for the “Addams Family” spin-off series ”Wednesday”. “Bloody Mary” accomplishes this feat without actually being in the show either!
A dance sequence from the record-breaking show caught the eye of social media users. In the show, the titular character dances to The Cramps’ 1964 single “Goo Goo Muck”. Then, fans took the clip and replaced “Goo Goo Muck” with “Bloody Mary” on TikTok and the revamped dance sequence took off. And by took off, we mean took off.
All episodes of ”Wednesday” premiered on November 23rd and the next week the gothic pop track saw streams go up over 500% and purchases of the track go up over 1000%. And the song has stuck around, maintaining its popularity. Lady Gaga reacted earlier this month to the resurgence tweeting “Slay Wednesday! You’re welcome at Haus of Gaga anytime (and bring Thing with you, we love paws around here)”.
