Sam Smith Kicks Off Pride Month With Cover Of Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful”
Sam Smith has released a cover of Christina Aguilera’s 2002 hit single “Beautiful” to kick off Pride Month. The stripped-down cover focuses on Smith’s vocals and a guitar, gradually building with strings and backing vocals. The song is exclusively available on Amazon Prime Music.
Smith expressed admiration for Aguilera’s original performance and the song’s heartfelt message of acceptance. “I’ve been such a massive fan of Christina’s for as long as I can remember and will never forget the first time I heard ‘Beautiful’…The song is a true acceptance anthem and continues to inspire me with its important message to never stop celebrating who you are.”
The cover release is part of Amazon Music’s Pride Month campaign, which includes a radio show hosted by “Drag Race” alum Mo Heart, featuring interviews with LGBTQ+ artists. The music video for the original song featured queer and trans people, and GLAAD honored Aguilera with a GLAAD Media Award in 2003.
