LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 14: Beyoncé accepts the Best Rap Song award for 'Savage' onstage during the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards at Los Angeles Convention Center on March 14, 2021 in Los Angeles, California.

After “Renaissance” leaked – but before it dropped last night – Beyoncé released a statement about it on her website.

Mrs. Carter explained that today’s album was one of a three-part project that she recorded during the pandemic, which inspired her creativity. “Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving,” she noted. “My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking.”

Bey also thanked everyone in her life – including her kids, Blue, Rumi, and Sir, her husband and muse, Jay-Z, and her godmother Uncle Johnny. She finished it with a special thanks to her fans – “I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are.”
