Spotlight Video of the Week | Christina Aguilera Drops Powerful New Video For “Beautiful”
Christina Aguilera has updated the video for one of her biggest songs. The singer dropped a powerful new clip for the 2002 track “Beautiful,” part of her 20th-anniversary celebration of her album “Stripped.”
The video, directed by Fiona Jane Burgess, is a commentary on young people’s obsession with social media, and the struggles they face with their looks and body image issues due to unrealistic examples of beauty they see.
The clip seems to end on a happy note with the young people overcoming their struggles, and dropping their phones and heading outside but it hammers home an important message.
The last image focuses in on a bleeding phone with the message, “In the last 20 years, since Stripped was first released, social media has transformed our relationship with our bodies, and in turn, our mental health,” adding, “Research suggests that time spent on social networking sites is associated with body image issues, self-harm and disordered eating in children and teens,” noting, “This needs to change.”
