Local South Carolina City Named One Of Money’s Best Places To Live In 2024

Each year for the past 30 years Money Magazine has released their Best Places to Live list. However this year, instead of just using data to determine this list they “decided to try something new”

While in the past Money has used a predetermined dataset to narrow the field to 50 cities, this year’s approach went the opposite way. The 2024 list was created “from the ground up” thanks to research and reporting.

Communities were highlighted that placed an emphasis on livability, equity as well as sustainability. A survey of readers was also used to help determine some of the cities included on this list.

According to Money, the 2024 Best Places to Live list “celebrates cities and towns where a thriving economy meets affordability, diversity and an exceptional quality of life”.

Carolina Cities and Towns Among Money’s Best Places To Live 2024

Of the 50 cities included on the best places to live list 3 were in the Carolinas. This included a fairly large North Carolina city, a small NC mountain town, and a South Carolina town just a few miles from Charlotte.

Rock Hill, SC

Money describes Rock Hill as “a growing city with jobs, nature and good eats.” Rock Hill is home to many people who commute to Charlotte to work. But the city also has a thriving economy. It offers a lower cost of living than the nearby Queen City and a somewhat slower pace of life.

Durham, NC

As part of the Research Triangle area of our state, Durham continues to be a great place to call home. The area is full of fantastic jobs and offers all the conveniences you need and want. Downtown hosts events at the DPAC and is home to the Durham Bulls. There are fantastic restaurants, breweries, and more as well.

Brevard, NC

Perhaps the most surprising place on this list is Brevard, NC. Not because it’s not gorgeous or a fantastic place to live, but simply because it’s a much smaller destination than others that made the cut. Located in Transylvania County Brevard is known as the “land of waterfalls”.

North Carolina Town No. 2 Prettiest Coastal Town In The South

What beach isn’t pretty? There is something so beautiful about where the ocean meets the sand that keeps us flocking to the beach. But what are the prettiest Carolina beaches? That’s such a hard question as everyone has a favorite. But according to Southern Living Magazine 6 coastal Carolina towns are among the South’s prettiest.

But of course, if you’ve grown up here that should be nothing more than confirmation to you. Though I’ll go ahead and spoil it a little for you and let you know that none of the North Carolina towns are on the Outer Banks. I know you OBX people are passionate about your beaches. Sorry to admit I’ve never been!

Now is the perfect time to book that beach vacation. Whether you want to get a jump start on the summer plans or perhaps take your trip before it gets too crazy! The good news is that at least some of these 6 coastal towns are a little calmer than places like Myrtle Beach.

The list was curated by Southern Living who let’s be honest are the experts when it comes to destinations in the South. These towns are described by the publication as having “charming downtowns, excellent waterfront dining, gracious places to stay, and scenic vistas”. All things I certainly look for in a relaxing beach vacation.
