Miley Cyrus Isn’t Performing At The 2019 MTV VMAs: ‘No F*ckin’ Way’
Don’t expect to see Miley Cyrus at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. When a fan wondered if she’d be performing at the VMAs next month, Cyrus’s NSFW answer set the record straight. She’s definitely not coming.
This week the 2019 VMA nominations dropped with Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande getting the most nominations with 10 each. Cyrus didn’t get any, which led some fans to revolt. “Guess I’m not watching the VMAs this year,” one fan wrote on Instagram, “unless Miley performs.” To which Cyrus replied, “No f*ckin’ way.”
Another Miley fan called out MTV for caring more about “f*cking green screen than a message to the world. Nominate anyone but at least do not use the image of Miley to promote their damn prizes.” Cyrus agreed, commenting “Exactly,” according to E! News.
Cyrus famously performed at the VMAs in 2013 when she twerked on Robin Thicke; (she hosted the VMAs in 2015). In 2018, Cyrus told Wonderland Magazine her “life and career were changed forever” because of her infamous VMAs performance — in a good way. “It inspired me to use my platform for something much bigger,” she said. “If the world is going to focus on me and what I am doing, then what I am doing should be impactful and it should be great.”
Cyrus has since gone on to found the Happy Hippie Foundation, a nonprofit that helps homeless and LGBTQ+ youth.
You can watch the Miley-less VMAs live on August 26.
