Taylor Swift Makes Rare Political Statement
Celebrities get political all the time, for better or for worse. One celebrity that doesn’t seem to dabble into politics is Taylor Swift. Until now…
One thing you don’t see often is Taylor Swift getting political. That all changed yesterday when she took to Instagram to share a message of support for Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen and Democratic Congressman Jim Cooper, who are both running for office in Tennessee, where Taylor Swift is registered to vote.
In the same political message, Taylor blasts Republican Marsha Blackburn, writing, “As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me.”
Taylor says she plans to vote for candidates who “will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country,” adding, “I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.”
