What's in a name? A lot when you're Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and you have a brand new High School in Ballantyne that needs a name! CMS is recommending the new Ballantyne High School be named Ballantyne Ridge High according to WSOC TV.
The school board is likely to finalize the name of the new school with a vote on Tuesday, November 14th. Other finalists' names include; Creekside High, for Macalpine and Four Creeks nearby, and Reginald Hawkins High. Reginald Hawkins was a prominent civil rights activist in Charlotte. He was also the first black candidate for state governor.
The other names that made the top 10 list are Queen City High, Thaddeus Tate High, Toringdon High, Big Rock High, Liberty High, Trailview High and McAlpine Creek High. I personally like Queen City High. That sounds like a new Nickelodeon TV show.
The new High School on North Community House Road has already been referred to as the “South County Relief High School.” In October school board members asked for the public’s help in finding a permanent name. Now, we'll find out the official name of the new school on Tuesday, November 14th.
The 100-classroom school will help overcrowding at Ardrey Kell High, South Mecklenburg High, and Myers Park High. The school should be open for the August semester next year. Then, they'll need to pick a school mascot name as well.
