Take A College Course Dedicated To Your Favorite Pop Stars Like Taylor Swift
With the cost of college on the rise, students really want to get their money’s worth. While some classes are necessary to graduate, wouldn’t it be so much easier to pay attention if the subject was one of their favorite stars? Fortunately for some lucky college students, there are several celebrity-inspired courses being offered at colleges right now.
According to Newsweek, fans can put their knowledge to the test in these classes:
- Psychology of Taylor Swift—Advanced Topics of Social Psychology – Earlier this month, Arizona State University announced they’ll be offering a course on Swift taught by social psychologist Alexandra Wormley. The class will look at each of her albums and how they relate to a topic in social psychology. Students will be required to read scientific articles on the subject and then apply them to the pop icon’s work. “For example, when we talk about ‘Lover,’ we’ll talk about romantic relationships and love,” Wormley says.
- Harry Styles and the Cult of Celebrity: Identity, the Internet and European Pop Culture – Texas State University students will get the chance to take this class, which will explore the singer-songwriter’s art and fandom and how that relates to modern life. Course instructor Louise D. Valencia says, “In the same way that The Beatles can tell us something about the 1960s, studying the art of Harry Styles gives us insight into the world that we live in today.”
- Nicki Minaj—Black Barbie Femmecee & Hip-Hop Feminisms – The rapper has had an impact on pop culture and this class at UC Berkeley studies Minaj’s career in the context of hip-hop and feminism. She responded to a tweet about the course when it was announced last October,
