City Of Charlotte Needs Help Naming This And Now It’s Gone Viral
Our fine city of Charlotte, in beautiful North Carolina needs help naming this item. And it’s so random that the story has gone viral! See, Charlotte’s street division is really proud of its new bike lane electric street sweeper. So proud, in fact, that they want the public’s help in naming the machine.
The Charlotte Department of Transportation is asking people to submit ideas for what to call their latest purchase and the suggestions are every bit as clever/crazy as you’d assume. The city narrowed the name down to three options: Sweep Caroline, Clearopathra, and Sweepy McSweepface.
Congrats to Sweepy Mcsweepface for the big win!
In case you’re wondering how Sweepy McSweepface made it into the mix, back in 2016, the UK put out a similar poll to name its new polar research ship. And though the public expressed overwhelming support for Boaty McBoatface, Science Minister Jo Johnson said there were “more suitable” names and ended up going with the RRS Sir David Attenborough.
The votes are in. Charlotte residents have officially named the new electric street sweeper Sweepy McSweepface. Democracy in action @wsoctv pic.twitter.com/8OrjpHSbeI

Orkin’s annual list of the Top 50 Mosquito Cities has just come out for 2023. The ranking is based on data from the metro areas where Orkin did the most mosquito control services from April 1st, 2022 to March 31st, 2023. For the third year in a row, Los Angeles tops the list. Chicago is number two, followed by New York City. Atlanta has moved up two spots to come in fourth, while Dallas/Fort Worth moves up one spot to number five.
Charlotte, North Carolina, is in the top 10 for the first time after moving up eight spots. When we reported on this last year, we were very surprised that no North Carolina city made the top list. Joining the top 50 for the first time are Oklahoma City, Austin (Texas), Spokane (Washington), Bakersfield (California) and Fresno (California).
