Getty ImagesDo you enjoy tasty Christmas cookies? I know I sure do. But, then again, I am a fan of cookies just about any time of the year honestly. From homemade from scratch to store-bought dough, cookies save the day for me at any time. With the holiday season upon us, Christmas cookies are a big thing for people. It is all part of their holiday traditions to bake their special Christmas recipe that they do every year. But, some areas are fond of a specific cookie more than others.
Reader's Digest is determining the best Christmas cookies for every state in the country. Just like food, Christmas cookies do vary in popularity depending on the state and region you are in. So, let's see what the Carolinas are serving up. For North Carolina, the go to Christmas cookies are mint twist meringues. I personally have never had nor tried this recipe before, so this is quite interesting. It's a light and airy meringue cookie with a burst of peppermint and finished with mint candies and baking cocoa. Sounds kinda good to me, worth the try for sure. Now, heading to South Carolina its favorite Christmas cookies are Lara's tender gingersnaps. Specifically out of Mauldin, Lara's gingersnaps are causing quite a buzz. Gingersnaps pretty much sing the holidays with every bite so this makes total sense.
Do you and your family have a go to cookie recipe that you use during the Christmas season? It's nice to keep the tradition alive, but sharing recipes can be fun too!
Would You Have Guessed This Is North Carolina’s Favorite Dessert?
We’ve run into a few lists that make us shake our heads over the years. But this one may take the… cake- pun 100% intended. North Carolina’s favorite dessert is not one we would have thought of. Coventry Direct used some interesting methodology to determine the most popular dessert in every state. They took a list of 40 of the most popular desserts and then analyzed Google search terms in each state for those 40 desserts.
While not a bad metric, it does seem to create an issue in states where popular desserts don’t really need to be Googled: Grandma just passes that recipe right on down. But anyway, while most of us might guess chocolate cake, or sweet potato pie for North Carolina, you’d be wrong apparently. Also, Idaho, Minnesota, New Hampshire, SOUTH CAROLINA are y'all ok? The other question I have is what in the world is Texas sheet cake and why is it so popular? Also why is there no just chocolate or vanilla cake or cupcakes on this list? I have to think those are more popular than things that made this list.
