Woman Gives Birth To Very Rare Identical Triplets At 46
Audrey Tiberius always dreamed of having seven children, and she already had four sons and wanted to have more, but when she was 41, she got some bad news. According to Today, fertility specialists told her that her chances of conceiving a child with in vitro fertilization (IVF) were just 10%. This was a shock to the Utah mom, who says she was naive about her fertility, assuming that because her grandmother had babies in her 40s, she would be able to do the same.
Undiscouraged, she tried three rounds of IVF, and all three failed. But when Audrey was 46, something shocking happened – she got pregnant naturally … with identical triplets. Maternal-fetal medicine specialist Dr. Lisa Thiel explains that it’s quite rare to get pregnant without medical intervention at 45, and it’s even rarer to have identical triplets. “Most experts put the odds of identical triplets at one in 200 million births,” Audrey says. “I talked to a statistician, and apparently, the odds of a 45-year-old having identical triplets are one in 20 billion!”
But she was the one, and on March 30th, Audrey and her husband, Tyler, welcomed their baby boys, Sky, River, and Bay. They join big brothers Marcus, 13; James, 11; Christian, 9 Max, 7 and Audrey finally has the seven kids she always wanted. “This was so statistically unlikely that there’s no way to explain it other than a miracle,” the proud mama says.
