Ready to get weird? Yup, me too.

It’s August 4th and just like the days before and the ones to come, the history is weird, a little scary and we’ve got a list of them for you to enjoy. Every morning I wake up grateful for the day and wonder what strangeness is associated with it. (Yes, I admit I’m a different breed of human) Knowing major historical events is crucial to understanding how we live today. Seeing what happened in the past intrigues me.

You might think I’m ghastly, but I find history fascinating because of the weird and scary things that happen. Here are 5 of the weirdest and scariest facts for August 4th. Enjoy!

• It’s Barack Obama’s Birthday!

  The 44th president of the United States has a birthday today! Obama served as the 44th President of the United States (2009-2017). Previously he was a Senator from Illinois before a 2004 speech at the Democratic National Convention cast him into the spotlight, leading to a successful 2008 presidential campaign. The one and only Barack Obama turns 60 years young today and we are all wishing him a happy birthday!

• “Hound Dog”

  My great-grandmother loved Elvis. On August 4th, 1956 Elvis Presley released "Hound Dog", a cover of Big Mama Thorton's original, written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The song was recorded originally by Big Mama Thornton on August 13, 1952, and has since been recorded over 250 times! "Hound Dog" was a major hit and is still used in many films today.

• The Love Ended

  Love was forever over. This is a really weird one (and I'm curious if they ever mended their differences) but on August 4th, 2015 the Muppets Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog announce the end of their relationship on Twitter. Kermit tweeted out a statement saying "After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship."
• Lizzie Borden…Took An Axe

  One of my favorite true crime cases happened today! On August 4th,1892 the parents of Lizzie Borden (Andrew and Abby Borden) were found murdered at their home in Massachusetts. And although never found guilty the following rhyme is remembered even to this day as the following... Lizzie Borden took an ax, And gave her mother forty whacks, When she saw what she had done, She gave her father forty-one.

• Anne Frank

  On August 4th, 1944 The Nazi Gestapo captured 15-year-old Jewish diarist Anne Frank. She and her family were hiding in a sealed-off area of an Amsterdam warehouse. You can visit the Anne Frank house to this day.
