Tiffany Haddish May Fill The Daytime TV Void That Will Be Left By Ellen Degeneres
Tiffany Haddish is most likely going to replace the daytime talk show void that will be left by Ellen DeGeneres, who announced that her show will be ending after its 19th season, according to Page Six.
The Girls Trip star has plenty of practice in stepping in, as she frequently filled in for Ellen DeGeneres on the daytime talk show, filling in for DeGeneres last October and last month. Apart from guest-hosting, Haddish has been getting practice on television hosting with CBS’s Kids Say The Darndest Things. She’s also currently appearing opposite Billy Crystal in new movie, Here Today.
A senior NBCUniversal source told the media outlet that “Tiffany is a favorite, she has humor and empathy … She’s top of the list to get a daytime show…she’s a fresh voice.”
DeGeneres recorded an interview with Today anchor Savannah Guthrie, who flew to Los Angeles to chat with her yesterday about her leaving the Ellen show after 19 years. Apparently, it was Guthrie who was due to break the news of DeGeneres’ exit, alongside The Hollywood Reporter, on Thursday morning, but the news was leaked beforehand.
Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson — whose show airs in most markets after DeGeneres — is a favorite to grab her coveted 3 pm time slot. NBC executives have taken an interest in the singer, including The Voice executive producer Audrey Morrisey who spotted her as a great TV talent, and former NBC executives Paul Telegdy and Meredith Ahr, who thought she would be great at daytime TV. The Kelly Clarkson Show launched in September 2019 and became the most-watched new daytime talk show in seven years, winning three Daytime Emmys last year, including one for Clarkson as best entertainment talk show host, the news outlet reports. In January, The Kelly Clarkson Show hit a season high and matched DeGeneres’ numbers for the first time.
