NOVATO, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 12: Packets of Heinz ketchup are displayed on April 12, 2021 in Novato, California. Packets of ketchup are in short supply as takeout dining has surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Kraft Heinz Company, who manufactures nearly 70 percent of ketchup used in America, plans to increase their ketchup production by 25 percent to keep up with demand. By now, you’ve heard about the growing ketchup shortage that’s sucking the condiment-loving soul from our nation. It’s gotten enough attention that a “black market” has developed for ketchup packets…which are at a premium.
A quick search on eBay shows over 150 listings for them, some asking for over $100 for just one packet. On Scranton’s Facebook Marketplace, another guy’s asking for $1,200 for just three packets.
Just because you ask doesn’t mean you’ll get, but you’ve got to admire the cojones it takes to ask that much for something so stupid.
