‘Sopranos’ Actor Joseph Siravo Dies at 66
Joseph Siravo, the actor best known for playing Johnny “Johnny Boy” Soprano on HBO’s The Sopranos, has died. He was 66.
Siravo’s death was confirmed by fellow Sopranos actor Garry Pastore who wrote on Instagram, “RIP my dear friend, who fought an incredible fight. I will miss you. See you on the other side.” Per The Hollywood Reporter, Siravo’s cause of death was due to colon cancer.
Sopranos co-star Michael Imperioli paid tribute to Siravo on Instagram writing, “Joe was an excellent actor and a wonderful guy and he will be missed dearly. His performance of Johnny Boy Soprano was spot on and he also made a perfect John Gotti in Nick Sandow’s ‘The Wannabe.’ In my opinion, he was the best of all the actors who’ve played the Teflon Don. Farewell Joe. Until the next life my friend.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that in addition to playing Tony Soprano’s father on The Sopranos, Siravo was also an accomplished theater actor. He has a number of Broadway, Off-Broadway and regional theatres credits to his resume. Most notably, he played Angelo “Gyp” DeCarlo in over 2,000 performances of the first national touring production of Jersey Boys.
Siravo’s other television and film credits include 1993’s Carlito’s Way, 2016’s The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story and 2019’s The Report.
