How To Make Friends Your Freshman Year of College
Tips on how to make friends your freshman year of college.
Some of us go to college with a group of friends but some of us are going to a new school in a new place where new friends are needing to be met. Meeting friends can be a daunting task, requiring us to go out of our comfort zone. Don’t worry…we got some tips for you!
Attend Events During Welcome Week. Most colleges create events that help welcome you into the school. These are often fun events that help you make friends with anyone! They even often have free swag to give away, which is a great incentive at any time of the year!
Be A Helping Hand To Whoever Needs It. An act of kindness can go a long way and a great conversation starter.
Get Involved In A Club or Sports Team. Most Colleges have involvement fairs during the first couple of weeks of school to help you see what you like or don’t like. Joining a club or a team is a great way to connect with people as they often require several meetups throughout the week.
Go to the library! The library is a peaceful place to study. You will see some of the same people who go to the library every day or every other day, so don’t be afraid to chat with them and bond over a class you may have together or being in the library.
Create a study group in your classes. Study groups are a great way to make friends and be helpful to you for that class. Helping each other builds trust and you are gaining a friend who will hang out with you outside of the class.
Show school spirit and attend sporting events! Sports always bring people together, even if you aren’t that big of a fan and don’t know too much about them! Everyone seems to have a good time at a football or basketball game.
Just. Go. With. The. Flow. Don’t feel like you have to make friends right away because other people are trying to make friends just like you. The friends that are meant to be in your life will come, and it could take longer than you think but that’s okay.
