Legendary Texas Based Fast Food Franchise To FINALLY Come To North Carolina
Before I write another word, let me state this unequivocally: the Whataburger that’s coming to North Carolina (finally) IS NOT the single mom and pop burger joint that’s been in the Charlotte area for some time. No, this Whataburger is part of the Texas-based franchise that has more than 900 restaurants nationwide. Of those 900, 700 are in The Lone Star State. However, as slow as expansion has been in the hearts of Whataburger devotees, our patience is about to be rewarded with the first franchise in North Carolina.
As the saying goes, you can take the boy out of Texas, but you can’t take the Texas out of the boy. Ask any of us raised there and we will tell you that sure we love McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc., BUT there’s nothing like a Whataburger. For starters they were the first fast food restaurant I can ever remember that was open 24 hours. When that late night jones for great flat top grilled cheeseburger hits late at night, there’s only one taste that pops in my head, Whataburger. When I think fast food breakfast that can’t be resisted? There is only one answer, the “Taquito” at Whataburger. I could go on and on about their menu items and chipotle ketchup, but for now, that’s not the point.
The point is that Whataburger IS FINALLY coming to North Carolina. A year or so ago, we were teased by this report that a franchise was set to open in Charlotte.
That may still come to pass, but for now it appears the first Whataburger to open in North Carolina will be in Fayetteville. ABC 11 reports Whataburger recently submitted plans with the City of Fayetteville for a 3,305-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru on Ramsey Street, according to the Triangle Business Journal.
Fayetteville IS a road trip, but for me and others like me, it’s more of a pilgrimage. Whataburger is finally coming to North Carolina, and I can’t wait!
