It's a sad tale these days, but all too common that we see more and more long time businesses falling by the wayside. And now, we learn Badcock Furniture closes all stores across the country after its parent company files for bankruptcy.

Badcock Furniture Closes All Stores

According to WBTV, Badcock Furniture is a 120 year old company with more than 380 stores in states across the Southern U.S., including North and South Carolina. And, in their recent social media post as Badcock Furniture closes all stores they announced customers could save up to 50% off merchandise.

Badcock's parent company is another familiar brand based out of Texas. Conn's bought Badcock last year. But now, Conn's is declaring bankruptcy. They plan to close around 70 of the Conn's stores as part of the bankruptcy.

The closures reportedly involve nearly 4000 employees between the two brands. And, other states with Badcock Furniture stores include Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia.

Through the years, we have lived in almost every one of those states. So, I am very familiar with the Badcock Furniture stores. I'm sure somewhere along the way we probably picked something up from one of their stores in Florida or Georgia.

It just seems increasingly harder for practically any business, regardless of how long they've operated or how successful they've been, to sustain in these current times. It's just my observation that even though so many fought through and persevered through the pandemic, nothing seems to have ever really returned to the way it was.

And, I know times change and businesses have to adapt to the evolving wishes of the consumer, including convenience, ease of purchase, speed and of course cost. But, when so many of us, myself included, just hit a button and have something show up at our door, there's a price to pay.

The stand alone stores of our childhoods with employees that actually serve the customer are disappearing. It's a shame. And now, I sound like my parents. I'll stop before I tell someone to get their hands off my thermostat!

I have no idea exactly what precipitated the bankruptcy and closures of these brands or if any of the post pandemic issues led to it. But, you hate to see it no matter why. See the full story from WBTV to read more as Badcock Furniture closes all stores.

These 37 North Carolina Stores Were Fined For Overcharging Customers

With prices skyrocketing around us it can seem like what you are being charged is incorrect. I have no idea how that grocery bill adds up as quick as it does, and for nothing, it seems. And while most of the time it's just the prices, they could be overcharging you. Every year the North Carolina state government audits stores to make sure they are charging consumers the correct listed prices and not overcharging. This year the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services collected fines from 37 stores in 22 counties due to excessive price-scanner errors.

This is monitored by the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in an attempt to keep stores honest. They believe many of the issues come from a lack of staff making it harder for stores to keep up. This essentially means that when rung up prices are showing higher than what they are marked on the shelves.

If you are shopping and realize an item rings up for a different price than advertised make sure to bring it to the attention of a manager. If you'd like to report a store for violations call 984-236-4750. Stores can be issued fines even if what they are doing isn't breaking the law.

You can read more details about how these fines are issues and specific violations of individual stores on the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumers Services website. Keep reading to see which North Carolina stores have been charged fines for overcharging customers.
