Charlotte Will See Rain Storms On Friday Maybe Snow Tuesday
The National Weather Service says we can expect rain and potentially some severe thunderstorms in the Charlotte area on Friday, but Charlotte could also see some snow on Tuesday. Let the KISS 951 weather nerd (me) break it down for you!
Friday will be the warmest day for a while. We could see some storms in the evening because of the warm air and cold air instability. The NWS also predicts flooding could be a concern with amounts anywhere between 1 to 2 inches of rain into Saturday.
So, what about the snowfall potential? The NWS says the weather models are not in total agreement on what will happen Monday night and Tuesday. One model is predicting way less moisture and temps above freezing. No bueno for snow.
Another model (the popular GFS) establishes a bit more moisture for Tuesday and Tuesday evening. Temperatures would be sufficiently cold enough for some wintry weather if this pans out. Models are torn on amounts and if snow falls, north and west of uptown would have the best shot at it. BUT here in the Carolinas we have something called the “warm nose.” It’s just that. Imagine your nose riding into any cold air. Since it’s warm air it tends to change any frozen precipitation to rain or freezing rain.
It’s still a little too early to say exactly what will happen. But if you’re a snow lover you have to be excited by the pattern of cold air marching into the area next week. This pattern is expected to stick around so we should have a few shots of snow at some point this winter.
