By now we’ve all either had one of our accounts hacked, or know someone that has had their identity stolen, so you may think we all take our passwords seriously. But you’d be wrong! The dark web monitoring company ID Agent has released their report of the top passwords being exchanged over the nefarious side of the Internet and it proves we still can’t follow basic directions for keeping ourselves safe.

According to a recent study, 81% of all hacking-related data breaches are because someone had poor password security. But with more parts of our lives moving online every day, it’s time we get serious about our login info. Here are some tips that may help keep you off the dark web.
Don’t use names. ID Agent’s research found 92 of the top 250 most common passwords on the dark web were first names or variations of first names. While your given name is easy for you to remember, it’s also easy for hackers to crack.
Mix up your numbers. For some reason, we just can’t stop using sequential numbers in passwords. The study found 35 of the top 250 most common passwords contained some variation of ‘12345.’ Stop punching in your passwords like you’re doing a piano solo and start mixing up your numbers!
