Whoopi Goldberg Gives Update on Sister Act 3 After Maggie Smith’s Death
We’re all excited about Sister Act 3, but following the death of Maggie Smith, things may need to be adjusted. Whoopi Goldberg is working on completing the script, but following Smith’s death things may need to be tweaked a little.
Whoopi Goldberg Speaks on Maggie Smith’s Passing
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Goldberg gave an update on where the film is now. The EGOT award winner confirms that the movie will still place, but the script is being rewritten to adjust to the absence of Smith in the new movie. “We’re having to make some readjustments because we just lost Maggie Smith, as you know,” she said. “And so, we will get it done. We will get it done. It just is a shift.”
Smith passed away in September at the age of 89. Her sons confirmed that she had passed away at a hospital surrounded by her friends and family.
Goldberg took to Instagram to express her condolences following Smith’s passing. “Maggie Smith was a great woman and a brilliant actress. I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to work with the “one-of-a-kind”. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family…RIP,” she posted.
Sister Act 3 Coming Soon
Smith was part of the Sister Act franchise when she played Mother Superior in both Sister Act and Sister Act 2. She starred along Goldberg, as well as, Jennifer Love, Alanna, Ubach, and Lauryn Hill. Both movies were a hit and although they were released in 1992 and 1993, people have been begging for the third installment of the movie.
After years of requests from fans, in 2021 Disney decided to work alongside Tim Federle and Madhuri Shekar to direct and screenwrite the film. Goldberg is set to return to her role, but also working alongside Tyler Perry and Tom Leonardis to produce.
