GenZ’s Are Flocking To This South Carolina Town
Cambridge, Massachusetts may have been the city with the fastest-growing millennial population in 2023, but that’s not the city Gen Zers are flocking to! According to recent data from SmartAsset, Gen Zers are instead flooding Ann Arbor, Michigan. That was the city whose Gen Z population grew the fastest last year. Gen Z also loves Columbia, South Carolina which came in at #9 on the list! The city known as “Soda City” is just a little over an hour away from Charlotte and had over 20,000 Gen Zers move in. That accounts for about 15% of the city’s population. Columbia has a great cultural scene with museums, art galleries, theaters, and music venues. The city holds tons of events and festivals, which is perfect for the typical Gen Zer. Plus, it has plenty of great food options. Not to mention cost of living is one of the lowest compared to many other cities in the United States. Housing, utilities, and everyday expenses are often more affordable, making Columbia, South Carolina a perfect spot for Gen Z.
Millennials seemed to have preferred the West Coast, with four out of its 10 top cities located there. Gen Z, on the other hand, seems to prefer the East Coast more, with half of its top 10 cities there.

It’s important to note that many of these cities are college towns, such as Ann Arbor and Provo. It makes sense that that’s where Gen Z may be moving to, as the generation includes college students.
