It’s office holiday party season! For some, it’s the best time of the work year. For others, it’s a dreaded event. Regardless of what your feelings are, according to Huffington Post UK there are some things you shouldn’t be doing at your work holiday party as they can ruin your reputation and may even put your job in jeopardy.
“I’m going to give you five things not to do at your office Christmas party ― coming from the perspective of an executive and two decades of office Christmas parties,” CEO Cristina Noh shares. From her eyes, here are the worst things you can do at your work holiday party.
- Don’t drink too much. Yes, there may be alcohol, but you’re still technically at a work function.
- What goes on at the after-party never stays at the after-party. Anything you do or say, can and most likely will make it back to others who may not be at the after-party, like your boss…
- Don’t gossip or badmouth your colleagues. Same as above – it can and may get back to them.
- Don’t forget professional boundaries. Again, it’s still a work event and you have work relationships with these people.
- Be picky about your plus-one. The way they act, the way they present themselves, and the things they say are all a reflection on you.
