South Carolina Police Surprise Drivers By Giving Free Turkeys Instead Of Tickets
The Summerville, South Carolina, Police Department has been replacing traffic tickets with free turkeys during Thanksgiving for the past five years. The initiative is called ‘Turkey, no Ticket.’ It aims to educate drivers about minor infractions while fostering goodwill between the police and the community.
Last week, officers, including Motorcycle Officers Bryan Young and T.J. Thomas, distributed 12 turkeys donated by a local supermarket. Police Chief Douglas Wright highlighted the project’s role in breaking down barriers between law enforcement and the community, noting that it brings joy to both officers and recipients during the holiday season.
As someone who was pulled over recently, I would say a turkey is much better than a ticket! Especially if that turkey was deep-fried and crisp. But I’d take a McDonald’s cheeseburger too. Sounds like a good idea for Mayor McCheese. Haha.
