North Carolina Man Hasn’t Worn Shoes In Over A Decade Here’s Why
A North Carolina man hasn’t worn shoes in over a decade. He kicked off his shoes and never put them back on. Robin Greenfield of Asheville says he hasn’t worn shoes since 2011. That includes going shoeless doing everything from hiking to grocery shopping.
The 37-year-old says he was inspired to live the shoeless life when he went on a school trip to New Zealand in 2008 and noticed the group leader going barefoot. He told the NY Post: “I don’t recall a time having a particular reason, except that it felt right,” the environmental activist recalled. “I wanted to go barefoot, and I did it.” Greenfield says the only times he ever dons a pair of kicks is in bad weather or in places that require them. But otherwise, he says, “For me, being barefoot is an opportunity to reach people at any moment, with every step that I take to break outside societal norm.”
He hikes, bikes, shops and works barefoot. He’s been barefoot at concerts and festivals, which isn’t overly unusual. He did get stares while spending time in Glendale, California. He said he walked passed 100’s of people and every one of them stared at him in the upscale city.
Greenfield just threw away his last pair of shoes about 6 months ago. He says his family is concerned about his feet being injured, but are mostly supportive. He has lots of cuts from glass and other fragments. Greenfied leaves his feet wrapped and healing when not walking around.
I have a weird thing about walking barefoot. I love walking barefoot in the grass, but not on concrete or pavement. It gives me the heebee jeebies!
The next time you head to Asheville have a look around. See if you see someone barefoot. It just might be Robin himself!
