Thanks to Gen Z, Merriam-Webster has added over 690 new words to its dictionary! Among these words are a bunch of Gen Z slang words, many of which came from TikTok! So, which Gen Z words are now officially part of the dictionary and what definitions did Merriam-Webster give them?

  1. Simp: “To show excessive devotion to or longing for someone or something” or “someone (especially a man) who shows excessive concern, attention, or deference toward a romantic partner or love interest.”
  2. Bussin’: “Extremely good, excellent” or “delicious, tasty.”
  3. Rizz: “Romantic appeal or charm” or “to charm or seduce.”
  4. Mid: “Neither very good nor very bad” or “so-so, meh.”
  5. Thirst trap: “A photograph (such as a selfie) or video shared for the purpose of attracting attention or desire.”
  6. Beast mode: “An extremely aggressive or energetic style or manner that someone (such as an athlete) adopts temporarily (as to overpower an opponent in a fight or competition).”G
  7. GOATED: “Considered to be the greatest of all time.”
  8. Doomscroll: “To spend excessive time online scrolling through news or other content that makes one feel sad, anxious, angry, etc.”
  9. Finsta: “A secret or incognito account on the Instagram photo-sharing service.”
  10. ‘grammable: “Suitable to be posted on the Instagram photo-sharing service.”
